Huawei to open innovation centre in Belgrade

The Government of Serbia has adopted the Bilateral Cooperation Plan devised by the governments of China and Serbia under the auspices of ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative.

 Serbian Mining and Energy Minister, Aleksandar Antic will sign the document on behalf of the Serbian government.

The members of the government also adopted the Agreement on Economic-Technical Cooperation between the two countries.

Furthermore, the Serbian government and Huawei Technologies Co. have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding stipulating the development and implementation of the Smart Cities project in Serbia.

The document’s goal is to devise a smart cities strategy through the positioning of Huawei as a strategic partner to cities and local governments in Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad and other towns in Serbia.

“The joint effort and the mutual sharing of information will secure a platform for the development of local potential and the building of a local ecosystem in the field of digital transformation in the public, financial, education and energy sectors, as well as in the transport segment,” the government’s statement says.

The opening of the Huawei Innovation Center for Digital Transformation, as a regional centre for the Western Balkans, headquartered in Belgrade, was cited as one of the main goals of this cooperation.
