The Republic of Serbia’s Tax Administration has received 30,290 applications for the determination of the annual personal income tax for 2020, from citizens of Serbia who earned more than 16,000 euros in one fiscal year.
According to the Tax Administration, managers, company directors, engineers, economists and lawyers have earned the most. Also, 91% of the wealthiest citizens in Serbia are male.
The highest declared income of the top 100 taxpayers ranges from about 73 million to about 1.29 billion dinars. This practically means that the highest individual salary was about 11 million euros per year or about 900,000 euros per month.
Most of the applications were submitted by individuals from Belgrade, i.e. a total of 20,368 applications. Most of the millionaires in Belgrade live in Novi Beograd.
Novi Sad comes second in terms of the number of wealthy people, with 6,039 tax applications, followed by Kragujevac and Niš. Serbian citizens who earned more than 2,987,424 dinars in 2020, or more than 3 times the average annual salary in Serbia, were obliged to declare annual income tax.
Income tax returns are submitted in paper and electronic form. 41% of the applications were received electronically, through the Tax Administration’s web portal.
