Household income lower than household expenses in 2023

In 2023, the average monthly income in money and in kind, per household, amounted to 87,973 dinars and the individual consumption expenditures of the households amounted to 88,244 dinars.

Relative to 2022, the average monthly income in money and in-kind increased by 12.2% and the individual consumption expenditures of the households increased also by 12.2% in nominal terms.

The average monthly income in money and in kind of households in urban areas amounted to 89,568 dinars (11.0% increase, nominally, relative to 2022), while the average monthly income in money and in kind of rural households amounted to 85,046 dinars (13.9% increase, nominally, relative to 2022).

The individual consumption expenditures of the households in urban areas amounted to 89,931 dinars (an increase of 10.9%, nominally, relative to 2022), while individual consumption expenditures of rural households amounted to 85,118 dinars (an increase of 13.9%, nominally, relative to 2022).

The largest share of income in money and in-kind is income from regular employment (52.5 percent), pensions (30.9 percent), agriculture, hunting and fishing (4 percent), outside regular employment (2.4 percent) and social security (2.4 percent).

In the personal consumption of households, most of the money goes toward food and non-alcoholic beverages (36.8 percent), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (16.4 percent), transport (8.7 percent), personal items and other services (5.9 percent), communications (5.3 percent), recreation and culture (5.1 percent), clothing and footwear (4.7 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4 .5 percent) and health (4.2 percent).
