Highest number of new employees in state administration and health care sector

In Q4 of 2022, the total number of employees in Serbia stood at 2,342,244, says the State Statistical Office.

Most of them, 1,881,507, were employed by companies, while 404,988 were small business owners and their employees, as well as freelancers.

There were also 55,749 registered individual farmers. In 2022, the total number of employees was 2,310,035, which is 1.6 percent more than the previous year.

The number of employees in companies increased by 2.2 percent, while the number of employees working at small businesses increased by only 0.3 percent. There were 7.2 percent fewer individual farmers in 2022 compared to 2021.

In the last three months of last year, the number of employees increased by 53,936 compared to the same period in 2021, or by 2.4 percent. At the end of the year, there was an increase in the number of employees compared to the previous quarter, from July to October, by 33,289 people or 1.4 percent. Last year, the number of employees in the public sector increased by only one percent or 5,813 people.

Most of them, 2,590, are employed in the state administration, and 1,793 in health and social services.

In state public enterprises, the number of employees increased by 458 last year, and in local public enterprises only 156.

155,360 people were employed in healthcare and social services, and 148,720 in education and culture.
