Health Minister:”Drastic increase in malignant diseases is a consequence of NATO bombing”

Serbian Health Minister Danica Grujicic said that an increase in the number of patients suffering from cancer, autoimmune and mental diseases is a direct result of the NATO bombardment of Serbia with depleted uranium missiles.

She also said that depleted uranium damages the genetic material of people who are exposed it and that during and after the bombing, pathological pregnancies and anomalies were recorded, male sterility doubled and the number of married partners who cannot have children has been on increase too. Mental health problems are also a consequence of the bombing.

“About 27,000 patients were treated in 2019 for autoimmune diseases of various types, some of which are life-threatening for the patient and require prolonged treatment,” the Health Minister said.

She said that between five to seven years after the NATO bombing, there was a statistically significant increase in the occurrence of systemic oncological diseases, lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma, which, as she points out, often happens after nuclear incidents.

“The increase in the number of solid tumours occurred somewhat later, 9 to 15 years after the bombing. Analyzing the data from the European Cancer Information System, the highest mortality rates were recorded in Serbia, Hungary and Montenegro in 2021. The question is why. Therapy has significantly improved, diagnostics is not as late as before, but patients still die,” said Grujicic.
