Guide for angel investors published

The Serbia Innovates project, which is jointly implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the ICT Hub, and the Digital Serbia Initiative, has published a guide for angel investors in Serbia, in order to help potential business angels and startups to better understand the advantages and the process of angel investing, as well as different options for investing from a tax and legal perspective.

Angel investment represents an important stimulus to the domestic startup ecosystem because business angels provide startups not only with financial resources but also with their business know-how and experience.

As reported, the community of business angels in Serbia is constantly growing and consists of wealthy individuals who support startups by providing funds, time, contacts and knowledge.

The key value of business angels is that they invest in companies while they are still at a very early stage of development and most often actively participate in the development of the company.

“In recent years, we have seen an increase in supply and demand in Serbia when it comes to angel investing. There are more and more startups that are already in the early stages of development which demonstrates the serious potential for growth and there is an increasing number of people who want to invest in them. Public acknowledgement of these investments is very important because it sends a good message to the ecosystem, i.e. startups, that this type of support is available. On the other hand, a growing number of domestic investors is an excellent indicator for foreign investors that there is trust and potential in the ecosystem,” said Nataša Škrbić, program director for the startup ecosystem in the Digital Serbia Initiative.

According to Slobodan Zebić, head of the access to finance task leader at the Digital Serbia Initiative, the interest in investing in innovative startup companies by wealthy individuals is constantly growing.
