The Museum of Yugoslavia has been included in the list of the world’s best history museums in a selection by one of the most influential global magazines in the fields of travel and culture, Travel + Leisure, whose recommendations have a significant impact on the global visibility of cultural institutions and tourism flows, Euronews reports.
The New York-based magazine ranked the Museum of Yugoslavia among the world’s most renowned historical museums, highlighting it particularly in the category of institutions dedicated to history and cultural heritage.
“It is not often that the map of the world changes, which is why the Museum of Yugoslavia is so fascinating. When the former state broke up in 1991, it was a profound transformation that shaped the way we perceive the Balkan region today. If you are planning a trip to Belgrade, it is well worth visiting this museum to see artefacts, uniforms, and items that diplomats presented to the President of Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito,” the article states.
The museum complex includes the House of Flowers, the Old Museum, and the 25th May Museum, with a total area of 5,252 square metres, as well as a park covering 3.2 hectares. The museum houses more than 75,000 items documenting the history of the former state.
Alongside the Museum of Yugoslavia, the list also includes the Natural History Museum in London, the Origins Centre Museum at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology in Salta, Argentina, the National Palace Museum in Taipei, the Smithsonian National Museum in Washington, the Gold Museum in Bogotá, and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
The list of the best art museums features: the Vatican Museums, the Louvre, the National Museum of China in Beijing, the National Gallery in London, Tate Modern in London, the British Museum in London, the Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Centre in Madrid, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
