Germany’s Wieland Electric to close its factory in Čačak

The German company Wieland Electric has announced that it will close its production facility in Čačak, due to “the continued economic tension, combined with a disproportionate increase in the operating and logistics costs.”

The facility in Čačak will be closed by the end of May and 125 workers will lose their jobs.

“We are very sorry that we have had to make this difficult decision. The professional approach, the qualifications and the dedication of the employees in Serbia has impressed us from the very beginning up to the present day,” the company says in a press release.

The German company has announced that, in addition to the severance pay, it will pay additional bonuses to the employees for their “dedication and hard work.”

Wieland Electric, which produces electrical installations for the construction sector, launched production activities in Čačak in 2018 with its own funds, and receieved no subsidies from the city or the state.
