EXPO is expanding – new airport to be built

The SPV Galovica 1 Company, one of the six companies founded solely for the purpose of building facilities for the EXPO 2027 exhibition, launched a month ago a competition for the design of a residential complex. A consortium of six companies submitted the winning bid.

As stated in the tender, this building complex will span around 160,000 square metres and will consist of residential buildings and offices premises in Surčin.

It is interesting to note that the lots planned for construction are mostly located near Dobanovci, very close to the hunting ground, while another one is also located in Boljevci.

The layouts, deposited in the local land registry, already show the streets in and around the future residential complex. This practically means that the entire EXPO 2027 complex will extend much further than announced – around the future National Stadium.

The area around Dobanovci has been in the focus of urban planners and real estate developers for a few years now. Namely, to the northeast of Dobanovci, there is the plan to build the Singidunum mega-complex, spanning on 2.5 million square meters, which will house a business centre for advanced technologies, 2,800 apartments, schools, kindergartens, etc.

Also, according to the 2021 to 2035 Draft Spatial Plan, the construction of an international airport is planned near Dobanovci, more precisely 10km west of Nikola Tesla Airport, 24km from Belgrade, in the immediate vicinity of the E70 Grmovac – Dobanovci – Deč motorway segment.

According to that document, the airport complex will span about 1,100 hectares, have three runways, two passenger terminals, two cargo terminals, a logistics and free customs zone, modern navigation equipment and a light marking system.
