Exhibition of Pjer caricature award submissions in Belgrade

Winning caricatures, as a sort of a bitter-sweet reminder of the events of this year, will be showcased at the Pjer 2018 exhibition that will be opened at the gallery Belgrade in Kosancicev Venac.

This exhibition will present the results of the competition for the best caricature which has been traditionally organized by the Vecernje Novosti daily for over half a century.

This year, a total of 364 caricatures by 88 authors were submitted at the contest which is named after the legendary caricaturist Pjer Križanić. 124 of them will be exhibited at the gallery “Belgrade”.

At the exhibition, this year’s laureates will be also officially handed over the awards decided by the jury comprising of Jugoslav Vlahović, veteran of the Serbian caricature and last year’s winner of the Golden Pjer Award, Rade Tovladijac, president of the Association of Comic Book Artists of Serbia, film director Milos Škundrić and Milorad Vučelić, CEO of the Novosti Company.

Zoran Petrovic is the winner of this year’s Golden Pjer Award. The Silver Pjer will go to a caricaturist from Novi Pazar, Muhamed Djerlek, while the Bronze Pjer will be given to Dusan Smiljanic. Hadzi Dejan Nikolic is the winner of the Ranko Guzina award for the best portrait caricature of the famous film director and actor Orson Welles. Miodrag Pavicevic will receive the award for the best young caricaturist.

The Pjer competition is aimed at preserving the spirit of Pjer Krizanic, the culture of political satire and be a reflection of the important events from our reality.
