EU grants EUR 35mln towards construction of new children’s hospital in Belgrade

Serbia has signed an agreement with the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) stipulating a grant of 35 million euros to be used towards the construction of a university children’s hospital called Tiršova 2 in Belgrade, the Serbian government said.

The donation represents a third of the funds needed for the construction of the hospital, public investments minister Marko Blagojević was quoted as saying in a press release on Monday.

The Tirsova 2 hospital will span 66,000 square metres and the eleven-floor-tall building will have about 300 beds.

Work on the hospital’s foundations has been completed and the construction of the new facility is due to begin by the end of spring, with the first patients expected to be admitted by the end of 2026.

The construction of Tiršova 2 will cost 117.2 million euros, of which €95 million is needed for construction works, and the rest for the purchase of equipment.
