Epidemiological situation in Serbia still unstable

Daily pandemic-related numbers are still good, although there has been a slight increase in the number of people infected in the last 24 hours.

6,194 people were tested and 79 were positive, while two patients died. There are 20 patients on respirators. However, experts continue to say that the situation is uncertain.

The state of emergency was lifted a week ago and a few days after, the number of new patients has decreased but yesterday a slight increase in the number of infected people was detected.

“We’re at 1.2, close to 1.3%. That’s an increase, and to be honest, I’m not surprised. However, we must be aware that everything depends on us,” underlined epidemiologist Predrag Kon.

The biggest increase is in the south of the country.

If the number of newly infected people starts to grow rapidly in the next ten days, restrictive measures could be introduced again, epidemiologists estimate.

“If it were to rise above 2%, even 3%, then it would be necessary. We must not allow it to increase again,” Kon said.

The government has decided that Serbian citizens can enter the country and move without restrictions if they provide a negative COVID test no older than 72 hours.

If they cannot provide test results, they must self-isolate for 14 days.
