Serbian Mining and Energy Minister, Zorana Mihajlović, stated that the price of electricity must increase and that the Ministry she heads stands behind that decision, as does the State Budget Council.
Mihajlović also says that there is no agreement on how high the price increase should be, but just confirms that the Ministry considers the price hike necessary.
“We have prepared a regulation for vulnerable customers, i.e. to provide for those households that cannot pay for consumed electricity, gas or thermal energy. As much as we would like not to add to the inflation by maintaining the current electricity prices, doing so would cause a collapse in the Electric Power Industry of Serbia (EPS),” she said.
The State Budget Council has assessed that the electricity price must go up between 15 and 20 per cent.
