Economy Minister:”Serbian exports to EU almost quadrupled since 2009”

Serbian Economy Minister Rade Basta pointed out that the EU market is the most important export destination for Serbian agricultural products.

He stated on his Twitter profile that the European Union is traditionally Serbia’s key trading partner, as it accounts for about 60 percent of Serbia’s total trade with the world.

“The value of Serbian exports to the EU has almost quadrupled compared to 2009 when it amounted to 3.2 billion euros. This means that trade with the EU members has been constantly growing,” wrote Basta.

As he added, last year, Serbia set a new record in terms of exporting to the EU, which amounted to almost 14 billion euros.

“Serbian exports to the EU are growing faster than imports from the EU – from 48 percent in 2009 to over 85 percent last year. The EU market is the most important export destination for Serbian agricultural products because half of all Serbian agricultural exports end up in the European Union,” he adds.

Basta concludes that Serbia has benefited significantly from trade and economic integration with the EU.

After the EU, as Serbia’s biggest external trade partner, in second place, but with a much lower value of trade, are the CEFTA countries (2 billion worth of trade) and the Russian Federation (1.6 billion euros). China and the USA are in fourth and fifth place respectively, followed by Turkey and Switzerland.
