As of September, Serbian schools will be experimentally implementing dual education. The drafting of the Law on Dual Education is almost finished, and along with related bylaws, the law will be forwarded to the Serbian Parliament for a public debate soon.
In order to motivate companies to train high school students, the Serbian PM has announced that the state would grant subsidies which, for the moment, won’t be that substantial.
“Our intention is to create a good school model that would comply with the state’s education strategy. We also want to modify high school curricula to suit the requirements of dual education to a certain extent so that students would be given an opportunity to be trained by and work for well-known companies”, the Education Minister, Mladen Sarcevic says.
This type of education is supposed to provide a link between schools and companies, and enable high school students to work and study at the same time. This system has been successfully implemented in Switzerland, which state secretary has visited Serbia recently to relay the Swiss experiences with dual education.
“Dual education is an important factor of success in business and innovation in Switzerland. Close to 67% of young people are involved in dual education which offers them great future and job opportunities”, Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, the Swiss State Secretary for Education, has said. Dual education also reduces unemployment and promotes economic growth.
In Serbia, very few companies have actually expressed interest in taking in high school students for training, hence the Serbian government deciding to provide subsidies to motivate them to do that.
