The UAE-based company and the new owner of the Port of Novi Sad (Luka Novi Sad), DP World, plans to invest EUR 30 million in the port.
This was confirmed at the meeting with the Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, who said that that would be the biggest investments in the water transport segment in Serbia.
As she added, DP World was one of the biggest global companies in that segment. She also underlined that the Serbian and local governments would give the company all the required assistance in terms of carrying out the procedures necessary for this investment to be realized.

“The plan is for Serbia to become a multimodal hub in the Western Balkans and to connect the Danube and the Sava with the road and rail Corridor 10 by 2021. That’s why this investment is so important for Serbia,” the Minister said and announced that Serbian government was planning investments in the ports of Smederevo and Belgrade.
Rashid Abdulla, General Manager of DP World for Europe and Asia, said that the acquisition of the Port of Novi Sad was the company’s first investment in the Balkans. Mr Abdulla also said that the company was aware of the importance of the Danube when it comes to connecting Europe.
DP World operates under P&O Ports Dubai, which offered EUR 7.99 million for the acquisition Port of Novi Sad. The signing of the contract on the purchase of the Port of Novi Sad with DP World is planned for May 6th.
