The organisation Doctors Against Corruption has said that it doubts the credibility of data from the Republic Health Insurance Fund (RFZO) relating to waiting lists, after the number of patients waiting for hip and knee surgery dropped drastically within just a few days.
In its statement, the organisation says that the RFZO website showed on 27 January that 16,472 patients were waiting for knee surgery, while by 2 February, that number had been reduced by 2,515 people.
It adds that in the same period, the number of people waiting for hip surgery fell from 9,957 to 8,153.
“We asked the RFZO who controls the data, how it is possible that in just five days the number of patients waiting for knee and hip surgery was significantly reduced, how many people are operated on daily, but there has been no response. We had the same experience with the Ministry of Health,” the statement says.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić recently criticised Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar because the authorities failed to fulfil their promise to resolve the waiting lists.
In Serbia, just over 29,000 patients are currently waiting for surgery and diagnostic procedures, according to data available on the RFZO website.
