The former governor of the National Bank of Serbia, Dejan Soskic, is a potential opposition candidate for president of Serbia or mayor of Belgrade, according to the Demostat Centre.
According to them, Soskic’s candidacy is being considered due to the fact that he is well-positioned in public opinion polls, and is a respected economist who has never been involved in corruption scandals.
Soskic was head of the Serbian National Bank from 2010 to 2012, and is a professor at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Belgrade.
Demostat reports that the former deputy chairman of the People’s Party, Zdravko Ponos, as well as retired professor Vladeta Jankovic are also potential candidates, although Jankovic has previously stated that “the conditions under which he would accept the candidacy are difficult to achieve”.
