Delhaize records an 85% drop in profit in 2025 compared with 2024

Delhaize Serbia ended the 2025 financial year with a net profit of around €9 million, representing an 85% decline compared with 2024.

The net profit margin in 2025 stood at 0.6%, down from 4.4% the previous year. A return of 0.6% on approximately €1 billion of invested capital is significantly below the usual economic benchmarks for companies of this size and capital intensity.

In an effort to mitigate the negative effects of the Regulation on margin caps, the company was forced in the fourth quarter of 2025 to close 25 stores and implement a series of other measures to adapt to the new circumstances. Despite this, the company recorded a negative operating result in that quarter as a direct consequence of the regulation.

Total revenues amounted to approximately €1.4 billion, an increase of around €7 million compared with 2024, representing nominal sales growth of 0.5%. The cost of goods sold rose by around €30 million, indicating that the increase in merchandise costs significantly outpaced revenue growth. In addition, the average annual inflation of regular retail prices within our system was 0.3%, while year-on-year food price inflation in Serbia, according to the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, stood at 2.7%. This means that our selling prices increased several times more slowly than overall food prices in the market.

In 2026, we are focused on stabilising operations, gradually resuming investments, and establishing a long-term sustainable operating model in line with market conditions.
