Dacic: “New parliament will convene in July”

Outgoing Serbian Parliament Speaker, Ivica Dacic, said on Monday that he expects the new parliament to be constituted by the end of July.

“I think it will be impossible to form the government by the end of July since we need at least another week to end the election process. Realistically, we could constitute parliament by the end of July,” he said.

Dacic, leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), said that the new government will be formed “relatively quickly after parliament convenes”.

He also said that the decision on forming the ruling coalition is up to the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) as the largest parliamentary party.

The process to elect new parliament members was completed on Sunday with the fifth repeat vote in the village of Veliki Trnovac. The SPS decided not to file complaints over irregularities again, conceding one seat in parliament to an Albanian minority party. The SPS will now have 31 instead of 32 seats in parliament.
