There is a plethora of cultural summer events and concerts in Serbia. They range from concerts and festivals, such as Nišville Jazz Festival or the International World Music Fest in Kragujevac, to the famous actor John Malkovich performing in a play at the ancient Roman locality, Felix Romuliana.
One of the biggest festivals in the country and the region, the Beer Fest in Belgrade4, will be held from 18 to 21 August, and this year, the festival celebrates its 19th anniversary. The artists who have so far confirmed their performance include Bajaga, Hladno pivo, Tommy Emmanuel, Deca loših muzičana, Massimo Savić, Nipple People, Kosheen, Zbogom Brus Li, Love Hunters, Psihomodo Pop, Queen Real Tribute, Konstrakta, and E-Play.
Immediately after the festival, from 25 to 27 August, also in Ušće, the fourth edition of the Belgrade Music Week will take place, which will feature the biggest stars of the national and regional music scene, including Rasta, Coby, Sara Jo, Voyage, Crni Cerak & Lacku and others.
Hollywood movie star John Malkovich, a guest of the Belgrade Festival a few years ago, will take part in a play that will be staged at the ancient locality of Felix Romuliana near Zaječar. The multimedia comedy ‘Infernal Comedy – Confessions of a Serial Killer’, will take place on 8th August. John Malkovich will perform accompanied by the Vienna Academy Orchestra and the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra. This multimedia comedy tells the story of the Austrian writer and serial killer Johann “Jack” Unterweger, known as ‘the Vienna Woods Killer’, who was sentenced to prison in 1976 for his first murder, of 18-year-old Margret Schafer. In prison, Unterweger discovered a gift for writing and achieved fame with the autobiographical novel ‘Purgatory or the Trip to Jail – Report of a Guilty Person’.
The Zrenjanin Cultural Centre will feature rock music throughout the summer. The programme runs until 27 August, when visitors can expect numerous rock and roll concerts. Admission is free. A number of bands will perform at the ZROK Festival which will take place every Saturday in the Amphitheatre of the Cultural Centre starting at 10 pm. On Saturday, 30 July, three bands will perform – TBK, Neprijatelj Prelazi Zeku and Drink or Die.
The biggest event in Zrenjanin is definitely the Beer Days, which this year will take place from 9 to 14 August. Among other events, there is the performance of the world-renowned violinist Stefan Milenković, who will perform with the Zrenjanin Philharmonic on Thursday, 11 August, at 9 p.m., in the main town square.
The following day, Friday, 12 August, at 10 pm, the pop singer Marija Šerifović will perform, and on Saturday, the folk singer Halid Bešlić will give a concert near the town hall. On the last evening of the event, visitors will once again be able to enjoy the sounds of the Zrenjanin Philharmonic, which will perform with the exceptional singer Amira Medunjanin.
Also in August, the Nišville International Jazz Festival and the Local Actors’ Festival will be held in Niš. The Nišville will take place from 5 to 14 August, and the main festival programme will last from 11 to 14 August 2022, at the Niš Fortress. During the ten festival days, 250 different cultural events will take place on 15 stages, with close to 850 performers. In addition to the music programme, festival visitors can also enjoy theatre, film, art, literature and comics.
According to the organisers, around 150,000 visitors will pass through the Niš Fortress and other localities in the city during the festival. In 2016, the British daily The Guardian named Nišville one of the ten best jazz festivals in Europe.
