The Zijin Mining Bor Company has filed the request for an environmental impact assessment for the project of the exploitation of mineral deposits of copper and gold in the lower zone of the Cukaru Peki mine to the line ministry.
The document, prepared by Dvoper d.o.o. Belgrade and the Mining Institute, says that the project of the upper mine zone was completed and commissioned in late June 2021.
It also states that the lower zone of the mine consists of porphyritic rock with an ore body of huge proportions and raw materials in which the copper content exceeds 0.30%, in the amount of 2,049.55 megatonnes, with copper quantity of 15.70 megatonne, and gold ore in the quantity of 332.64 tonnes, with an average gold content of 0.16 grams per tonne.
It is added that the exploitation of the lower site will be done underground. The production is expected to begin in 2024 and the total production cycle will last 41 years.
In early September, Zijin and the Serbian Ministry of Mining of Serbia signed a Memorandum of Understanding stipulating the development of the Cukaru Peki mine’s lower zone. On the occasion, Zijin Mining confirmed its intention to invest USD 3.8 billion.
The Memorandum on the Development of the 300MW solar power plant project was signed at the same time.
