Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s private visit to the Jasenovac memorial area in Croatia, a death camp operated by the Ustasha regime during WWII, where among other ethnic groups many Serbs were tortured to death, will not happen.
According to the Croatian media, Zagreb authorities did not allow Vucic into the country due to the violation of the protocol.
Zagreb-based Jutarnji List daily cited sources in the Croatian government who said that Vucic planned to cross the border from Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. its Republic of Srpska entity without an official announcing himself to the Croatian authorities and without coordinating the visit with the embassy. The plan was that, once he got into Croatia, he would proceed to Jasenovac around 11 a.m. and to Pakrac around 2 p.m.
The Croatian government unofficially stated that Vucic did not obey the set protocol and the relevant procedures and rules of diplomatic relations.
President Vucic reacted to the decision of the Croatian authorities, posting a Jasenovac memorial photo on his Instagram page, saying: “Just do your job! The Serb people will live and will never forget!”
