Crisis Response Unit: Recommendations for third dose of vaccine

The Serbian government’s Crisis Response Team recommended that people with certain ailments, primarily patients with immune deficiency and chronic ailments should have a third dose of the corona vaccine.

Labour Minister Dr Darija Kisic Tepavcevic told reporters after the meeting that the third dose is also recommended for people who underwent transplant surgery, patients on dialysis and people with malignant disease.

The response team recommendation follows in the footsteps of a recommendation by the Expert Immunization Committee which said that a third vaccine shot of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine should be given at least six months after the second shot.

“The end of the fight against the coronavirus is still not in sight,” she warned and added that the fourth wave of infection depends on the degree of collective immunity. “A lot depends on us. If the unvaccinated get vaccinated, maybe the fourth wave won’t even happen. Late autumn and winter are critical periods,” Darija Kisić Tepavčević went on to say.

As for the new school year, which starts on September 1st, she said that it all hinges only on the epidemiological situation and that a final decision regarding schools and the in which they will operate is expected to be made a week before the new school year is due to start.
