The Serbian government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China’s Shandong Hi-Speed Group (SDHS) stipulating drafting project documentation for a motorway linking Zrenjanin to Belgrade and Novi Sad, the Serbian Ministry of Infrastructure has confirmed.
“We will first arrange the drafting of the planning and technical documentation for a 110-kilometre-long section, and together with the Finance Ministry, we will work on securing financial resources after which we will sign a commercial contract,” infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said in a statement on Wednesday.

The signing of the MoU is the first step in the implementation of a project worth close to 600 million euros, Mihajlovic said after the signing ceremony.
Zrenjanin is located in Serbia’s northern autonomous province of Vojvodina, close to Belgrade to Hungary’s Budapest. The Serbian government is also carrying out a major overhaul of the railway line with Chinese funding, in order to ensure high-speed railway connection along the route.
The director of Shandong Hi-Speed Group thanked the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Minister Mihajlovic for their trust and support, saying that this is the fourth project that the Chinese company will do in Serbia, following the construction of the Milos Veliki motorway.
