On 22nd June 2026, Sava Centre in Belgrade will become the venue for the first guest performance of the Chinese National Opera in Serbia.
The monumental production of Turandot will present one of Asia’s leading ensembles through an interpretation of a renowned work of the world’s musical literature.
The guest appearance brings a spectacle based on Puccini’s story of ancient China, where a princess sets three riddles before her suitors, while a brave prince accepts the challenge for her heart. Questions of courage, reason and the power of love form a thematic framework that is universal, which is why the opera retains enduring relevance for audiences around the world.
The Belgrade performance is being realised as part of an international programme marking the centenary of the premiere of this masterpiece. The organisation is led by Verdi Opera and the International Opera Foundation, while the artistic team includes conductor Yang Yang, director Wang Hućuan and soloists Liu Janhua, Yao Hong and Li Shuang, accompanied by the orchestra of the Chinese National Opera.
The work of this ensemble is characterised by a high level of professionalism and a powerful interpretation. The production engages more than 200 participants, with demanding logistics involving the transport of scenery and lavish costumes arriving in Serbia in several consignments.
