The census in Serbia was completed last night at 20:00h, and Serbian residents who have not been listed during the census have to contact the census hotline (0800 444 005) free of charge, by November 17, to do the census questionnaire via the phone.
Serbian residents can also phone census enumerators in the field and the list of their phone numbers is posted on the official website of the State Statistical Office.
Although the census was supposed to be finished on October 31, it was extended until November 7 in Belgrade, Užice, Valjevo, Smederevo, Pančevo, Šabac, Novi Sad, Subotica and Novi Pazar, due to an insufficient number of persons enumerated. As a reminder, until the last day of October, about 6,300,000 inhabitants, over 2,400,000 households and about 3,400,000 apartments were registered by census enumerators.
The preliminary census results have justified the fears of demographers that Serbia lost more than 500,000 people between the two censuses. What we know for sure is that our country, based only on a negative birth rate (i.e. more deaths than births), lost about half a million people in the period from 2011 to 2022. People who left the country between the two censuses (estimates say that between 100,000 and 200,000 people emigrated from Serbia) should be added to this figure.
