The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn and Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmstrom sent a joint letter to Kosovo Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj explaining the EU’s position that tariffs on goods from Serbia must be withdrawn urgently – the EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancic confirmed.
„In the letter, Commissioner Hahn reiterates the EU’s efforts to resolve Pristina’s complaints about the functioning of the CEFTA agreement in an appropriate manner,” Kocijancic said, without specifying the details of the letter.
One of the solutions is that, in the CEFTA, the word „UNMIK“ would be replaced with the word “Kosovo“.
As a sign of goodwill, the EU representatives demanded that Kosovo postponed the execution of a decision on tariffs on products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina until Monday, December 17th, when the SAA Council was due to meet in Brussels.

However, electronic media in Pristina report that the Kosovo government was not willing to compromise.
Ramush Haradinaj’s advisor, Avni Arifi confirmed that the government received a letter addressed to the Prime Minister on Monday.
“The letter does not contain any views / points that are new to the citizens of Kosovo. Also, the citizens know all of the Government’s positions on the issue“, said Arifi.
Based on this statement, the media are reporting that the Kosovo government would probably turn down Mogherini’s proposals.
KTV has reported that Haradinaj is due to meet with Mogherini tomorrow in Brussels. The meeting between the Kosovo PM and the EU official will be held under under the auspices of the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Kosovo and the EU.
The meeting topics will probably include the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Kosovo’s decision to form an army and the import tariff.
