The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, today called regular local elections in nine local self-government units in Serbia for 29 March.
Regular local elections will be held in the City of Bor and in the municipalities of Aranđelovac, Bajina Bašta, Kladovo, Knjaževac, Kula, Lučani, Majdanpek and Smederevska Palanka.
Brnabić stated that, in accordance with her authority and obligation under Article 34 of the Law on Local Elections, she had adopted the decision to call regular elections for councillors to the assemblies of nine local self-government units.
“The previous local elections in these nine local self-government units were held on 3 April 2022, and in accordance with Article 35 of the Law on Local Elections, the decision to call elections is adopted no earlier than 150 days and no later than 45 days before the expiry of the councillors’ mandate,” Brnabić told journalists after signing the Decision on Calling Elections.
She added that the same article stipulates that no fewer than 30 days and no more than 60 days may pass between the calling of elections and polling day.
“In accordance with all the aforementioned dates and statutory deadlines, I have adopted the decision to call the elections,” Brnabić said.
She noted that, as on previous occasions, she was once again expressing hope and appealing to all participants for the elections to be conducted in a democratic atmosphere.
“I wish all participants success in the elections, and may the best candidates with the best plans and programmes for all citizens of these nine local self-government units prevail,” Brnabić said.
Under the Law on Local Elections, councillors are elected for a four-year term, and elections for councillors must be held no later than 30 days before the end of the term of those whose mandate is expiring.
