Belgrade to host 17+1 Ministerial Innovation Summit in October

Belgrade will host the Ministerial Innovation Summit in October this year, under the auspices of the Mechanism of Cooperation between China and 17 countries of Central and Eastern Europe – Nenad Popovic, Serbian Minister of Innovation and Technological Development, and Ambassador of China to Serbia, Chen Bo, confirmed on Monday.

The Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Jiang will be one of the officials to take part in the Belgrade summit which is an important event for China considering it is dedicated to innovation trends in Europe – Ambassador Chen said.

Popovic informed the Ambassador about the meetings he had during his recent visit to China, where he participated at the Second China Digital Summit in Fujian City.

During his stay in China, he talked with the leaders of the largest Chinese digital companies, such as Alibaba, Tencent, Net Dragon, Baidu and others, and urged them to open innovation and development centres in the Serbian-Chinese industrial park in Borca.

He also pointed out that once the park was built, Serbia would become one of the main technology partners of China in Europe, within the framework of the One Belt, One Road initiative.

Ambassador Chen said that innovation would be one of the most important areas for cooperation between China and Serbia in the future, and she expressed her satisfaction with the constantly better bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of innovation and digitization.
