Belgrade-Novi Sad high speed railway to be completed this year

The problems with the foreign contractors hired to build the high-speed railway from Belgrade to Novi Sad have been eliminated, Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic, said and added that the section would be finished within the deadline, by the end of 2021.

“It is no secret that this is a project for that we have had many problems with in the past. We came to the conclusion that President Aleksandar Vučić had to intervene with his authority to force both our partners and foreign partners to comply with the agreement. We have solved all the problems now,” said the Minister.

Momirovic told Tanjug that negotiations with the Chinese and European partners about the procurement of trains that will be able to run at 200 km/h on that route were in progress. A trip between Belgrade and Novi Sad will thereby take slightly over half an hour, he underlined.

“I expect all the tests to be carried out within two months of the completion of the works and the railway to be in commercial use. We have started negotiating with both Chinese and European partners about the procurement of trains. Our goal is to have state-of-the-art trains in this part of Europe. We will buy the trains as soon as possible from a company that offer the best price,” he points out.

Momirovic adds that everything regarding the project has been done transparently and that the goal was for as many parties to be included in the negotiations about the procurement of trains.
