Belgrade named seat of Western Balkan Transport Community

Serbia’s government said on Wednesday the Transport Community of the Western Balkans has decided to set up its headquarters in Belgrade.

The decision was taken by the transport ministers of the countries participating in the initiative and was confirmed on Wednesday during the first meeting of the EU-Western Balkans Council for the Transport Community in Brussels, the government said in a statement.

Serbia will remain committed to the regional cooperation and economic connectivity of the Western Balkans, in which infrastructure projects are of enormous importance, prime minister Ana Brnabic said.

The European Commission signed a Transport Community Treaty with Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia at a summit in Trieste, Italy, in July. Bosnia and Herzegovina signed the treaty in September.

The key objective of the treaty is a deeper integration of the Western Balkan region with the EU transport market towards common standards, network efficiency and quality of service offered to citizens and businesses.
