Belgrade now has its first recyclomat, i.e. a recycling device that pays out money to people who dispose of recycling material into the recyclomat.
In the next two weeks, 25 of these devices will be installed in the capital.
Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesić, who attended the installation of the first device in Knez Mihailova Street, says that Belgrade citizens have to be aware of the importance of waste treatment.
“Putting up a recycling device is our contribution to the promotion of recycling and separation of waste. Belgrade citizens can now dispose of various types of packaging here and, depending on the type, will earn between 3 and 5 dinars per packaging,” Vesić added.
The money can be used to refill the public transport card, as well as buy minutes from the mobile phone operator Globaltel or you can make a donation to two foundations, the Novak Djokovic Foundation or the Foundation for Young Talent of Belgrade (Fondacija za Mlade Talente Grada Beograda).
“I hope that we will have more facilities in the near future and I think there is no reason not to go with this idea. Such facilities exist in many cities around the world,” Vesić wrote on his Facebook profile.
