Beldocs documentary film festival starts on May 10

The 16th Beldocs Festival, an international documentary film festival, will take place from May 10 to 17 in Belgrade and will screen a number of award-winning documentary films.

The wide thematic spectrum of films that will be screened at this year’s festival covers topics such as influencer culture, the police state, young people’s addiction to psychoactive substances, the position of the individual in Russia, the artist’s struggle with himself and the environment, and the war in Ukraine.

Winners of the IDFA festival in Amsterdam, DOC NYC in New York and CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, as well as Cannes and Sundance festivals, will be shown at this year’s Beldocs.

These include “Mariupolis 2”, directed by the Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravicius, who was killed in the war in Ukraine, “Apolonia, Apolonia”, directed by Lea Glob and showcasing a life story of the Parisian artist of the same name, “How to Save a Dead Friend”, the winner of the DOC NYC documentary film festival, which talks about a 12-year-relationship between two drug addicts and their road to recovery and “Girl Gang”, directed by Susanne Regina Meures and nominated for the European Best Documentary Award, which follows the life of a 14-year-old influencer Leoni.
