The 15th European Animated Film Festival “Balkanima” will be opened today, 2nd October (at 19.30h) in the Studentski Grad culture centre in Novi Beograd. The festival closes on 6th October.
“Over 160 animated films from more than 25 European countries will be screened during the five days of the festival. One animated film from Serbia will be shown every day of the festival except for the third day that will feature with the film called III, directed by the Polish filmmaker Marta Pajek, which attracted a great deal of attention at the Cannes festival,” the organizers said.
Balkanima will also feature three Serbian films that have so far won awards at major international festivals – “Music Trauma”, directed by Miloš Tomić, “Echo” directed by Boriša Simović and Kosta Rakićević, as well as the film “Not Travelling”, made by Nikola Majdak and Ana Nedeljković. Other award-winning authors from the region include Dušan Kastelica, who was a jury member at Balkanima Festival two years ago, and this year will showcase his film “The Box”, as well as the animated film “The Cyclists”, from the Croatian filmmaker Veljko Popović.
Children’s films will be screened during the children’s competition program at the festival with two screenings planned – one for children ages 2 to 6, and another one for children ages 6 to 12. The decision on the best-animated children’s film will be made by a jury composed of five children attending an animated film workshop in DKCB, the organizers said.
The International Jury, that will judge the main competition programme, consists of Sebastian Sparer (France), Dimitrije Vojnov (Serbia) and Martina Meštrović (Slovenia).
