Automobile sales went up 30% compared to last year

March is traditionally the month of “trade fair fever”, but also the right time to analyze the new car market and review this year’s trends.

Judging by the sales results in January and February of 2024, we can expect an increase in sales of new cars in the domestic market. The analysis conducted by the Polovni Automobili (Used Cars) website shows that in the first two months of this year, sales of passenger cars to individual buyers increased by 30% compared to the same period last year.

According to data collected in cooperation with the CUBE Team during January and February 2024, individual buyers bought 1,114 passenger cars.

Last year, the sale of new vehicles increased by 11.6% compared to 2022. However, almost 70% of the total market is company purchases.

What do Serbian drivers usually buy?

While overall statistics show that Škoda models are the most popular new passenger cars as company vehicles, individual buyers prefer other manufacturers like – Hyundai Tuscon and Toyota Yaris Cross, who were the best sellers in the first months of this year, while Škoda’s Kamiq, Dacia Sandero and Toyota Corolla occupy the third, fourth and fifth place respectively.

Sales data regarding motor fuel are also interesting to look at. As many as 668 new passenger cars sold in the first two months run on petrol, while only 97 diesel cars were sold in the same period. In January and February, a total of six electric cars were sold. It will certainly be interesting to follow this data, given that this year, the Ministry of Environmental Protection allocated subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles in the amount of 170 million dinars (hybrid vehicles are not eligible for subsidies).
