Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has said that Serbia would be left without electricity and gas if the TurkStream pipeline was destroyed and announced that he would ask the Security and Information Agency (BIA) and the police to protect the pipeline in Serbia from possible attacks.
“No one in the media noticed, but President Putin said that someone tried to destroy the TurkStream and prevent further transport of natural gas. If that happened, I don’t know what we would have done – it would have left us without electricity, because the gas plants, TETO Novi Sad, TETO Zrenjanin and TETO Pančevo would not be able to operate,’ Vučić told reporters after a meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“I have talked to the BIA and I will also talk to the police to patrol with helicopters and protect the pipeline from potential attacks,” Vučić added.
As reported by Sputnik, Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, has accused Ukraine of attempting to blow up a section of the TurkStream gas pipeline.
Politika daily reports that ‘such attempts have been noticed in the last two or three weeks, especially on the continental part of the pipeline stretching from Russia, through Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary.
“All these attempts have been thwarted and any problems in the supply of Russian gas in this direction have been avoided,” said the Politika’s source, who added that ‘if a part of the pipeline were to explode, our country would immediately detect it because of the drop in the pressure in the pipes, because an attack cannot go unrecorded no matter how far it is from us, as the pressure is monitored along the entire length of the pipe. For now, gas arrives unimpeded through the TurkStream. There are no interruptions in the pressure, so everything is under control’.
The same source adds that that is not the first time that such warnings have come from the Russian Federation, and that perhaps the news has been that noticeable due to the serious problems that have arisen with gas leaks on Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, after the attack on the underwater part of the pipelines.
