Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, Mladen Sarcevic said that an art campus will definitely be built in Novi Beograd, near the Hyatt Hotel, on an area spanning 20,000 square meters.
Sarcevic also pointed out that the construction of the infrastructure for the faculty was one of the priorities of the Ministry he helms, and pointed out that the Government of Serbia had allocated funds for the construction of several faculties, including the art campus.
“The Faculty of Music Arts is a priority, followed by the Faculty of Applied Arts”, Sarcevic underlined at the meeting of the University Council in Belgrade.
The art campus project started with the construction of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Novi Beograd. However, the construction of the facilities for the Faculty of Music Arts and the Faculty of Applied Arts stalled, as the owner of the plot on which they were supposed to built changed in the meantime, after which the Ministry offered another plot of land to the Faculty of Applied Arts, in Topcider.
The Minister says that the state funds were also allocated towards the construction of buildings of the Faculty of Geography and the Faculty of Security. He also said that the plan was to demolish the old building housing the Faculty of Biology and build another one, near the Botanical Gardens, that would span 5,900 square metres.
The Faculty of Organizational Sciences is also due to get a new building. The minister also said that other faculties were free to approach him if they needed new space. He also mentioned that building new facilities for faculties was important for the process of internationalization, i.e. the arrival of more foreign students willing to study in Serbia.
