Italy’s Ambassador to Serbia, Carlo Lo Cascio said that his country was encouraging Serbian friends to continue with internal reforms and negotiations that would lead to a compromise solution with Pristina, stating that Italy would support both of those projects.
At the reception on the occasion of the Day of the Republic of Italy, Lo Cascio reminded that the two countries were celebrating 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership, while mentioning the recent visits of the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conti to Serbia, as well as the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vučić meeting with the Italian Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini.
According to the Italian ambassador, the European future for Serbia must remain tangible and credible, and Serbia must remain the leader in the process.
“This is an ambitious goal, but EU membership does not only entail adopting laws but common values too,” Ambassador Lo Cascio underlined and added:” Dear friends, you have made the right choice; the choice from the heart. We believe in that choice and you should not stop believing in it too.”
The reception was attended by the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, Maja Gojkovic, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, the wife of the Serbian President, Tamara Vucic, ministers, representatives of the diplomatic corps and numerous public and cultural figures, as well as representatives of Italian companies operating in Serbia.
On the eve of the reception, Ambassador Lo Cascio presented Aleksandra Ristić – Fira, Ivan Petrović and Milan Vranić with the Italy Star medal for their outstanding contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Serbia and Italy.
