The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that he had known about the departure of the Italian company Geox from Vranje for two months, and that “this is not going to be the only case of a foreign investor leaving”.
“We will not leave Vranje in the lurch,” said Vucic.
Asked to comment on the departure of investors from Serbia, Vučić said: “Yes, they have been leaving and that will be the case with several other companies that came here when there was a different government in power. Albeit, that could happen to us too.”
He said that at one time “people from the Democratic Party (DS) took credit for bringing Geox to Serbia, although it was our government that paid for everything the DS promised.”
“We are working on finding an urgent solution for people who will lose their jobs, at least 500 of them, out of a total of 1,200. We are talking to a Turkish investor from Vladicin Han to open a production plant in Vranje. We will do everything in our power to find jobs for people who worked at Geox and to provide them with a better salary than the Italians did,” said Vučić.
