What are Google Preferred Sources?

Preferred Sources is a personalisation setting inside Google Search. It lets you select one or more news outlets that you want to see more frequently in the Top Stories box — the carousel of recent articles that appears at the top of the results page when you search for a topic currently in the news.

Google launched the feature in August 2025 in the United States and India, extended it to English-language users worldwide in December 2025, and made it available in all supported languages on 30 April 2026. It now works on desktop and mobile alike, in English, Italian and Serbian.

What changes for you

Once Serbian Monitor is on your list, our reporting on Serbian business, economy and politics will surface more often in Top Stories, and in a dedicated From your sources section on the results page whenever we have published relevant coverage.

What does not change is the breadth of your results. Google still shows you a range of outlets alongside your selections — this is a nudge to the ranking, not a filter bubble. You keep the full picture, but you stop scrolling past thin, outdated or automatically translated coverage of the region to find it.

How to add a preferred source manually

1. Search on Google for a topic that is currently in the news — for example Serbia elections or Belgrade investment.
2. Look for the Top Stories header in the results and click the star icon to its right.
3. Type Serbian Monitor in the search box that opens.
4. Tick the box next to our name, then close the panel.
5. Refresh your results. You will start seeing our articles more prominently.
