The great Serbian actress Milena Dravic has died at a Belgrade hospital last night – the Association of Drama Artists of Serbia.
Milena was admitted for treatment but her condition turned for worse two days ago. Two and a half years ago, she lost her husband Dragan Nikolic, also one of the great Serbian actors, and soon after his death, she fell ill.
This summer she was invited to come to Pula, Herceg Novi and Palic, to attend the presentation of her monograph.
Milena Dravic was one of the greatest actresses that Serbia and Yugoslavia had.
She was born on October 5th, 1940 in Belgrade.
Dravic, who was a film, theatre and television actress, is known as one of the best and most popular actresses in the former Yugoslavia.
She has acted in over twenty theatre plays and 159 films. She is also the recipient of many awards.
For four and a half decades she was married to actor Dragan Nikolic (1971 – 2016), from 1967 to 1969 to film director Vojislav Kokan Rakonjac (1935-1969) and in 1960/61, she was a in a short-lived marriage with another film director Mladomir Puriša Đorđević.
She is the recipient of a number of the prestigious awards among which are the “Golden Rose” at the Venice Festival, “Golden Haridba” at the festival in Taormina, “Golden Lies” in Avelin, several Golden and Silver Arena at the Pula Festival, “Dobric’s Ring”, “Pavle Vuisic Award”, the Joakim Vujic Statuette, the Golden Seal “of Yugoslav Cinematheque, the Belgrade Winner Statuette and others.
Milena Dravic will be buried on Friday, next to her husband Dragan Nikolic. Before the funeral, a commemoration will be held in the Zvezdara Theatre.
