8th Sombor Film Festival from 9th to 12th July

The eighth Sombor Film Festival will be held from 9th to 12th July, organised by the Laza Kostić Cultural Centre Sombor.

This year’s edition, held under the slogan “Light and Shadows of Reality”, will bring together domestic and regional productions, young filmmakers, and a focus on Slovak cinema. It will also feature a supporting programme, including an exhibition dedicated to the great icon of Yugoslav cinema, Danilo Bata Stojković, marking the 90th anniversary of his birth.

The festival brings a carefully selected programme that includes the main competitive programme, a selection of films by young filmmakers, Slovak film in focus, as well as supporting events that connect contemporary cinema, film heritage, and the local identity of the city.

The pre-festival programme also offers content for the youngest audience. On Wednesday, 8th July at 6 pm, the animated adventure “Ozi: Voice of the Forest” will be screened in the courtyard of the Cultural Centre. Through the story of a little orangutan and her friends, the film combines humour, ecology, friendship, and important messages about nature conservation.

Once again this year, the festival awards “Ernest” and “Boer” will be presented. These bear the name and legacy of Ernest Bošnjak, serving as a reminder of the deep connection between Sombor and the history of cinema in this region.

Admission to all programmes of the Sombor Film Festival is free. More information about the festival will be available soon on the official channels of the Laza Kostić Cultural Centre Sombor.
