48th Architecture Salon: Shifting space

The 48th Architecture Salon will be ceremonially opened on Thursday, 2 April at 7 pm, and will run until 5 May 2026, at the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade.

Founded in 1974, the Architecture Salon is one of the most significant platforms for presenting and critically examining contemporary architectural production in Serbia. Its primary aim is to promote outstanding achievements in architecture, as well as to encourage dialogue on the role and position of architecture in society.

This year’s 48th Architecture Salon is being organised in collaboration with the Association of Architects of Serbia (UAS), the Association of Serbian Architectural Practices (ASAP), and the Women in Architecture Society (ŽAD), with the intention of highlighting the importance of unity and synergy within Serbia’s architectural community.

The theme of this year’s Salon, “Shifting Space”, points to the need for architecture to respond actively to contemporary social, environmental and cultural challenges. Starting from an understanding of space as a dynamic field of transformation, the Salon re-examines architectural practice in the context of global processes such as climate change and migration, as well as local social conditions. Through this concept, space is opened for considering three key directions: mobilising the profession towards collaboration, stimulating thought towards the preservation and renewal of heritage and resources, and activating collective responsibility towards the planet.

A total of 275 works were submitted to the public call, of which the jury selected 114 for exhibition. The selection includes realised projects, conceptual designs, research, student work, publications, as well as works in architectural photography and various actions and events.

The jury of the 48th Architecture Salon comprised architect Riste Dobrijević, Dr Maja Dragišić, Nemanja Zimonjić, Maja Necić and Tatjana Joksimović.

During the Salon, visitors can expect a rich accompanying programme including workshops for children, panel discussions, guided exhibition tours, as well as the official awards ceremony on 16 April. The Salon will close on 5 May, when the catalogue will be presented alongside a panel titled “Why Do We Need Architectural Criticism?”
