2 million tourists visited Serbia in 2016

A total of 2.12 mln tourists visited Serbia between January and September 2016 -12 pct more than last year, a statement of the Serbian Tourist Board said.

In the observed period there were 1.15 mln domestic tourists – 13 pct more than last year, and 11 pct more of international tourists – 977,000.

54 pct were domestic and 46 pct were international guests, reports the Tourist Board, quoting the data collated by the National Statistical Office.

During the first nine months of 2016, there were 6 mln overnight stays (a 13 pct increase) – 65 pct domestic and 35 pct international. 

Domestic guests stayed more in spas (39 pct) and mountains (35 pct) while foreigners stayed mostly in Belgrade (50 pct). 

The biggest number of international visitors was from Bosnia, Montenegro, Turkey, Russia and Bulgaria.
